Legal status in the United States
Approved medicine. The FDA label for Egrifta SV states it is indicated for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy, and that it is not indicated for weight-loss management. Long-term cardiovascular safety is stated on the label as not established.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic, stabilised analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone, the hypothalamic hormone that prompts the pituitary to release growth hormone. Unlike most substances covered on this site it is an approved medicine in the United States, sold as Egrifta, for one specific indication.
