Real-world effectiveness of 6-month tirzepatide therapy on body weight and composition in adults with overweight and obesity
Brancato D, et al. (2026). Journal of Diabetes and Its Complications.
Summary
A retrospective observational study of 122 adults with overweight or obesity (80% women, mean age 44) who received tirzepatide alongside a low-carbohydrate diet and physical activity advice at a clinic in Italy. Over 24 weeks mean body weight fell from 95 to 80 kg and BMI from 35 to 29. Fat mass fell by about 35% while skeletal muscle was preserved, and HbA1c, fasting glucose and an insulin-resistance index also improved. The authors compare the weight loss to the 72-week SURMOUNT-1 trial. There was no control group, and diet and activity changes were part of the programme. No competing interests declared.
