Summary
A preclinical study in gerbils with brain ischemia and in organotypic hippocampal slice cultures. The synthetic C-terminal peptide of IGF-1 Ec (MGF) gave strong protection to ischemic neurons, with an effect that lasted longer than full-length IGF-1 and appeared independent of the IGF-1 receptor. This is an animal and tissue study; it does not test people.
