Efficacy and Safety of Chemically Synthesized Semaglutide Injection (HD1916) for the Treatment of Obesity: A Multicenter, Randomized, Phase III Trial

Gao L, Ma Y, Zhang Q, et al. (2026). Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

Summary

A multicentre, randomised, open-label phase III trial in 462 adults with obesity and without diabetes, comparing a chemically synthesised semaglutide product (HD1916) with the reference semaglutide (Wegovy). Mean weight reduction was about 13% with HD1916 and about 14% with the reference, which the authors report as equivalent, and adverse events occurred in similar proportions in both groups. The trial was open-label.
