Real-world effectiveness and safety of low-dose tirzepatide in Japanese people with type 2 diabetes: a multicenter, retrospective, single-arm, observational study (ESTATE)
Iwamoto et al.; East Shizuoka Tirzepatide study collaborators (2026). Endocrine Journal.
Summary
A multicentre retrospective observational study in Japan of 88 people with type 2 diabetes who received tirzepatide for 24 weeks. HbA1c fell by 1.5 percentage points and BMI by 1.5 kg/m2 (both p<0.001). Serum albumin rose, and alanine transaminase and LDL cholesterol fell. A higher baseline HbA1c predicted a larger HbA1c fall. Gastrointestinal symptoms were the main adverse events. The authors note that the single-arm observational design, with no control group, limits causal inference. Funding is not stated in the abstract.
