Glycemic control and weight loss benefits of fixed-ratio combinations of basal insulins and GLP1 receptor agonists in type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Summary

A network meta-analysis of 30 randomised trials in 17,862 adults with type 2 diabetes. It compared fixed-ratio combinations of a basal insulin and a GLP-1 receptor agonist with basal insulin alone. Every combination lowered HbA1c and body weight more than basal insulin alone, and more people reached an HbA1c below 7%, often without weight gain or clinically significant or severe hypoglycaemia. The combinations include IDegLira (insulin degludec with liraglutide), iGlarLixi (insulin glargine with lixisenatide), IcoSema (insulin icodec with semaglutide) and HR17031. The authors say differences between the combinations are less certain than the comparison with basal insulin alone. No competing interests were declared. Registered as PROSPERO CRD420251242577.
