Disease modifying effect of chronic oral treatment with a neurotrophic peptidergic compound in a triple transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease

Kazim SF, et al. (2014). Neurobiology of Disease.

Summary

A twelve-month study in triple-transgenic Alzheimer's mice and wild-type controls. The P021 peptide compound reduced tau hyperphosphorylation, lowered soluble amyloid-beta and rescued cognitive deficits and synaptic plasticity, with the authors pointing to a BDNF-linked mechanism. The authors note the effect was mainly on tau rather than amyloid pathology. This is an animal study; there are no human trials.
