Targeting biglycan–TLR2/TLR4 interaction with synthetic peptides mitigates inflammation and ameliorates renal function in ischemia–reperfusion injury

Summary

A study of two synthetic peptides derived from biglycan. In laboratory assays they bound TLR2 and TLR4 and reduced biglycan-triggered inflammatory signalling in mouse and human macrophages. In mice the peptides were given before kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury. Compared with injured mice that did not receive them, the treated mice had less immune-cell infiltration, lower expression of inflammatory markers in the kidney, and lower serum creatinine. The injured groups had six mice each. An early study in mice. No competing interests were declared.
