Summary
A rat study comparing liraglutide and semaglutide with saline in male rats given a metabolic-syndrome-like condition through a high-fat diet and a low dose of streptozotocin. After six weeks of treatment the researchers measured blood pressure, glucose and lipids, heart function by ultrasound and, in isolated hearts, recovery after a period of interrupted blood flow. Both drugs improved the metabolic profile, with semaglutide having the larger effect on body weight, and both improved heart muscle recovery after the interrupted flow, lowered oxidative stress markers and reduced tissue damage seen under the microscope in the heart, liver and pancreas. These are animal results.
