The mitochondrial-derived peptide MOTS-c improves bioenergetics in aging-associated granulosa cells and oocytes

Tsui KH, Cheng SH, Lin LT, et al. (2026). Reproduction and Fertility.

Summary

A laboratory study in aged human granulosa cells and eggs from aged mice. MOTS-c raised energy production, helped maintain cell structure and was associated with better egg maturation than untreated aged eggs, though not to the level of young mice. The authors state the work is not from women and did not test fertilisation, embryo development or live birth.
