Wharton S, le Roux CW, Startseva E, et al. (2026). New England Journal of Medicine.
Summary
A phase 3 trial of survodutide, a dual glucagon and GLP-1 receptor agonist, in 752 adults with type 2 diabetes and a BMI of 27 or more, randomised to one of two survodutide dose levels or placebo for 76 weeks. Mean weight fell by 8.2% and 9.8% in the two survodutide groups against 3.9% with placebo, and HbA1c fell by 0.8 to 0.9 percentage points against 0.2. Gastrointestinal adverse events occurred in 72.8 to 77.7% of survodutide participants against 38.6% on placebo, typically mild to moderate and transient. The trial was funded by Boehringer Ingelheim. Survodutide is investigational and not an approved medicine.
