Adjunctive recombinant human thymosin β4 therapy improves antibacterial outcomes against Staphylococcus aureus

Summary
An in vitro laboratory study from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Recombinant human thymosin beta-4, the full protein rather than the TB-500 fragment, was tested alone and alongside moxifloxacin, ciprofloxacin, oxacillin and vancomycin against Staphylococcus aureus (strain 8325-4 and two clinical isolates) in broth and biofilm assays. Alone it had little direct antibacterial effect. The authors report that combinations with antibiotics reduced bacterial growth, mainly in liquid culture, and that effects on established biofilms were limited. Not tested in animals or people.
